Manjanggul Cave is one of the finest lava tunnels in the world, and is a designated natural monument. A lava tunnel is formed when the lava that was deep in the ground spouts from the peak and flows to the surface. Manjanggul Cave has a variety of interesting structures inside including 70cm lava stalagmites and the lava tube tunnels.

Only 1km of the 13,422m Manjanggul Cave is open to the tourists. The inside of the tunnel sustains at a temperature of 11~21℃, creating a comfortable atmosphere. There are rare animals such as bats living in the tunnel, which makes this tunnel valuable for researchers as well. The stone pillars and stalactites are widely spread and the tunnels shows off the cave’s topographical features. The Stone Turtle is especially eye-catching because it is shaped like Jeju-do Island.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak rose from under the sea in a volcanic eruption over 100,000 years ago. Located on the eastern end of Jejudo Island, there is a huge crater at the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. The crater is about 600m in diameter and 90m high. With the 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater, it looks like a gigantic crown. While the southeast and north sides are cliffs, the northwest side is a verdant grassy hill that is connected to the Seongsan Village. The ridge provides an ideal spot for walks and for horse riding as well. The sunrise from the crater is magnificent. Also the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak surrounded by bright yellow colored rapeseed flowers in the spring is truly a sight to behold.

Located at the foot of Mt. Halla, Seongeup Folk Village has perfectly preserved Korean tradition. With its vast amount of cultural property, this place is designated as a Folk Village.

Many cultural properties such as residential houses, Confucian shrines and schools, ancient government offices, stone statues, millstones (run by horse or ox), fortress ruins, and stone monuments, and intangible cultural assets such as folk plays, native foods, local folk craftsmanship, and the local dialect are handed down to date. The several-hundred-year-old zelkova trees and nettle trees standing in the middle of the village are designated as natural monuments. Wandering around this area, you will feel as if you travled back to the past. It is a popular place for foreigners to experience the unique Korean native culture.

Located on Jeju-do Island, Seongeup Folk Village shows the unique residential culture of the island; the poorly made windscreen stone wall (black lava rock), the straight but curvy Ollae (narrow alley) to block the wind, and the stone statues which have become the prime feature of the landscape. The local black-haired pigs and tongsi (pigsty / restroom) are especially well-known indigenous products. Pork is said to be very nutritious and the region, making the Folk Village a novel experience.

09:30 Mokpo Modern History Museum

The photography exhibit at the Modern History Museum is definitely a must-see. The collection of photographs illustrates the changing landscape of Mokpo Port, beginning with its opening in 1897. Photos also depict the lives of Mokpo’s citizens during the Japanese colonial rule, one of the most difficult times in recent history. The museum building itself is also historically significant. Built in 1920, it was officially designated a cultural asset in 1999.

In October 1897 a Japanese Consulate was installed in Mokpo . As this building retains the Western architectural style of that period, it was designated as a national historical place in 1981 and is now the Mokpo Cultural Center.

12:00 Mount Yudalsan

Located in the heart of the city, Mount Yudalsan (228 meters above sea level) offers terrific views of downtown Mokpo, which stretches through the mountain valleys and along the coastline. The surrounding cliffs rise like a folding screen in harmony with the trees. After an invigorating hike, visitors can take a rest at the gazebo near the top of the mountain and survey the sprawling cityscape.

The tour continues with a walk over Bohaenggyo, a pedestrian bridge that leads out over the sea to Gatbawi, a rock appropriately named for its resemblance to a man wearing a gat (cylindrical, traditional Korean hat). Gatbawi is a natural creation resulting from years of erosion by waves and currents. Because of its geological value, the formation was designated as a natural monument. In the past, Gatbawi had only been accessible by ferry; however, since Boyaenggyo Bridge was built in 2008, visitors have been able to make the trip on foot. From Gatbawi, take a stroll along the coastal road and head to Culture Street for a visit to one of the area’s many museums.

16:00 National Maritime Museum (or, Mokpo Ceramic Museum on Monday.)

Located on the oceanfront, the National Maritime Museum houses both a museum and the Maritime Cultural Asset Research Institute, the nation’s only institute for underwater archaeology. The museum recovers relics that were lost underwater hundreds of years ago for the purpose of preservation and exhibition. In the exhibits, which are organized into 4 themes, guests learn about the exploration of a trade ship that went down between the 11th and 14th century and the Goryeo celadon relics that were recovered during the exploration. In addition to the indoor pieces, an exhibit of actual-sized Korean traditional ships is on display on the waterfront outside the museum.

Mokpo Ceramic Museum

This museum displays household ceramic ware, construction ceramic ware and sanitary ware by period, which allows you to take a look at the evolutionary changes of ceramic ware. Also, state-of-the-art industrial ceramic ware such as semiconductors, bio ceramics and aeronautical ceramics, are on display.

From above, it seems as if the roofs blend in to form an undulating sea of black tile. From within, it’s an enchantingly Byzantine labyrinth of rustic stone and clay walls, handsome wooden gates and private courtyards. It’s a breathing reminder that even in the heart of the urban jungle, the slower, simpler ways of old still live on. Or, to put it another way, Seoul is a city dashing towards the future with one foot firmly rooted in the past.

Seoul’s famous N Seoul Tower is the location where Gu Jun-pyo waits for Jan-di in a freezing winter night. The two had planned to go on a date, but become trapped in the gondola on the way to the N Seoul Tower and have to spend the night there.

N Seoul Tower is located on top of Namsan Mountain and is a place where you can get fine views of Seoul. The tower first was built in 1969 as a satellite tower to accommodate television and radio broadcast in the Seoul area.

There is lighting show every night in N Seoul tower and it begins at 5PM until 11PM with various color presentations. The lighting show of N Seoul tower is very impressive and it is one of the must-see attractions when you visit Seoul.

This island is the location where many scenes of Winter Sonata were shot. A leisurely walk around the island will take approximately 1~2 hours. Many visitors opt for biking part way. Bicycles can be rented at the administrative office located near the center of the island. There is a small farm area on the island with many ostriches, which are free to roam the island on days when there aren’t many visitors. It’s fun to race the ostriches while riding bicycles, but don’t plan on winning unless you have legs of steel. Summer tourists can enjoy boating around the island, but fall is certainly the loveliest time of year here.

• Day 1

Namiseom Island

This island is the location where many scenes of Winter Sonata were shot. A leisurely walk around the island will take approximately 1~2 hours. Many visitors opt for biking part way. Bicycles can be rented at the administrative office located near the center of the island. There is a small farm area on the island with many ostriches, which are free to roam the island on days when there aren’t many visitors. It’s fun to race the ostriches while riding bicycles, but don’t plan on winning unless you have legs of steel. Summer tourists can enjoy boating around the island, but fall is certainly the loveliest time of year here.

Several filming locations in Chuncheon

Myeongdong: Yu-jin and Jun-sang promise to meet here on New Year’s Eve. Yu-jin waits outside in the cold not realizing that Jun-sang was in a car accident. The two return to the scene 10 years later. And you will have a lunch with famous food of Chuncheon, grilled chicken with marinade

Junsang’s house: Threre is real house which was used for Junsang’s house. Here you can flash back to Junsang.

Chuam Beach

Chuam Beach is a beach filled with a diverse variety of rock formations and coastal cliffs, where 150 meters of white sands leave you breathless. This beach is also called Haegeumgang Beach, due to its beautiful surrounding scenery. There is a lot to see on this rocky island, with its wild coastal cliffs boasting such formations as ‘Knife Rock’, ‘Candlestick Rock’, and of course caverns. The ‘Candlestick Rock’ is somewhat known to be symbolic of Chuam Beach, as it points sharply towards the heavens. Just behind ‘Candlestick Rock’ lies the summerhouse, Haeamjeong.

In Chuam beach, you can reminiscence the scene where Yu-jin and Jun-sang took their first trip together to the seaside and it’s also where Jun-sang said his goodbye to Yu-jin in the end.

Yongpyong Resort

Yu-jing’s company, Polaris, and Min-hyeong’s company sign a contract to work on the same design project at the Dragon Valley Ski Resort. The two main characters spent much time here working and falling in love again.

The cafe ‘Cheoeum’: The cafe where Yu-jin and Min-hyeong (Jun-sang) had a meal. The cafe was named after the song that Jun-sang played for Yu-jin when they were in high school.

Dragon Valley hotel lobby/lounge: Sang-hyeok’s mother meets Yu-jin and asks her to return to her ailing son and marry him.

Path between Yongpyong Condominium: Yu-jin and Min-hyeong (Jun-sang) take some time away from their work to revisit a memory of when Jun-sang first held Yu-jin’s hand as she walked along a log.

Western-style restaurant at Dragon Park: Yu-jin and Min-hyeong (Jun-sang) take the ski lift up to the small lodge at the top of the mountain. Due to the time and weather conditions, they are forced to stay the night. Min-hyeong tells Yu-jin that he loves her here.

09:30 Odongdo Island

Originally, it was an island, but now having installed the bulwarks of Yeosu Port all the way to Odongdo Island, visitors can simply walk along the breakwater. There are 70 species of wild flowers that flourish here, a hill commemorating the plantation of the very first tree and a spacious grassy field making this place great for ecological education.

The Odongdo Island of Yeosu is one of the most spectacular spots to appreciate camelias. The camelias on Odongdo Island begin to bloom in November and color the entire island in scarlet until April the following year. Indeed, during this period the entire island looks like a huge camelia blossom. The promenade that stretches across the entire island is popular with couples.

Dating from the Joseon Era (1392-1910), Naganeupseong Village boasts a fortress, a dongheon (central building in which local authorities conducted public affairs), a gaeksa (guesthouse for local and foreign public officials) and thatched-roof houses preserved in their original state. Today, about 280 people still live in about a hundred households and visitors are invited into several residences to experience hands-on programs exploring pansori singing and wooden craft making. Naganeupseong is the last remaining walled-city in Korea. The entire 1,410-meter-long fortress wall remains intact, giving visitors the unique opportunity to take a walk along the top and get a spectacular view of the village down below.

16:00 Songgwangsa Temple

Songgwangsa is one of the three most important temples in Korea. The temple contains all the facilities needed to train monks in the ways of Buddha and has produced 16 guksas (the highest rank in Buddhism, a title reserved only for the most highly esteemed monks). The sheer width of Daeungjeon (main building) gives one the impression of grandeur, a feeling further enhanced by the many paintings illustrating the teachings of Buddha and highlighting his achievements. Uhwagak Pavilion at the entrance is considered particularly beautiful for the striking harmony between its arched bridge, columns, and the surrounding environment.
